Python 2 will retire in thirteen days (see https://pythonclock.org/), there is no reason to keep obsolete checks in the code any longer.

8b0607e035 fix #92: handling of --colormap 
Use "default" instead of "colormap".
Use the first color in the user-defined map to check mode.
Add check of mixed modes.
